Offering
Offering - after Carol Ann Duffy
Not a smooth stone or a sizeable stick
I give you my grief.
It is a lead weight on my heart
It promises nothing
Like the inevitable passage of time
Here.
It will plunge to your depths
Like a knife
It will shatter your surface
A relentless ring of ripples
I am trying to let go
Not a message in a bottle or a pretty shell
I give you my grief
Its black taint fades in your streams
Trickles and bleeds
As I do
For as long as it takes
Take it.
Its jagged edge is an echo
When I'm with you
Purged
Your touch lingers
on my skin
Lingers in my mind
